Warsaw and Batavia – Mary E. Penders, 76, of Warsaw, a clerk at J.C. Penny in Batavia until her retirement, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at her home, in Warsaw. Mrs. Penders was born April 1, 1938 in Warsaw, a daughter of the late Vincent and Lorraine (Keenan) Almeter. She had also worked at the Salvation Army and enjoyed garage sales and baking cookies for many friends and organizations. She is predeceased by her husbands, Allen C. Gill who died February 22, 2004 and Edward F. Penders, who died November 12, 2010. Survivors include 3 children, Michael (Susan) Gill of OH, Julie (Steve Davis) Gill of Batavia and Jeff Gill of Utica, 2 brothers, Edward (Connie) Almeter of Rock Glenn and Donald (Patti) Almeter of FL; 2 sisters, Judy Hamilton of Varysburg and Sue (Al) Linsey of Bennington; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 E. Main St., Batavia, where services will follow at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the family.
