Batavia – Donald L. Dart, 89, of Batavia, a salesman, repairman and troubleshooter at Ferrellgas in Batavia prior to his retirement, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Batavia VA Medical Center. Mr. Dart was born June 2, 1925 in Manitou Beach, MI, a son of the late Chester H. and Florence (Southard) Dart. He was a 1942 Graduate of Onsted High School and was a member of Northgate Free Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veness – Strollo Post 1602. He had previously been a milk hauler and enjoyed hunting with special friends. He served honorably in Central Europe during WWII with the US Army’s Rainbow Division. His regiment liberated the concentration camp at Dachau. He was very active in veteran’s affairs and was past president of the Rainbow Division Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Joanne E. (Peavey) Dart whom he married June 25, 1950; 5 children, James Dart and Janet Murray, both of Batavia, Dale (Katheryn) Dart of Courtland, Darrell (Jennifer) Dart of Holley and Kayleen (Vincent Pastore) Dart of LeRoy; 6 grandchildren, Tom (Amanda) Murray and Courtney Dart, both of Alexander; Sarah Dart, Laura Dart and Emma Dart, all of Courtland and Ethan Dart of Holley; 2 great-grandchildren, Nora Murray and Jack Murray, both of Alexander and a brother, Dean Dart of Manitou Beach, MI. He was the brother of the late Samuel Dale Dart. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Northgate Free Methodist Church, South Campus, 350 Bank St., Batavia where services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Batavia VA Medical Center, 222 Richmond Ave., Batavia, NY 14020. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian, MI at 10 a.m. Saturday. Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co., Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia, NY.
