Batavia – Mrs. Dorothy Clay Glidden, 92, of Batavia, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. Mrs. Glidden was born February 16, 1922 in Flat River, Missouri, a daughter of the late John and Virginia Holley Clay. Mrs. Glidden was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia for many years and a member of Stafford Country Club for over 30 years. An avid bridge player, she was also a member of the area bridge clubs. Her husband, Dr. Sawyer A. Glidden, passed away on February 25, 2001. She is survived by her sons, John S. (Moira) Glidden of East Bethany and James F. (Denise) Glidden of Batavia and three grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Glidden, Sarah Ann Glidden and Emily Virginia Glidden. She is predeceased by her sons, Andrew C. and Charles M. Glidden. There are no prior visiting hours. Friends are invited to her funeral service on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia. Oakfield – Roger S. “Duffy” Ingalsbe, 61, of Oakfield, passed away suddenly on Sunday, (June 29, 2014) at Unity Health System, in Rochester. Mr. Ingalsbe was born February 25, 1953 in Batavia, a son of the late Otis J. and Viva (Kinne) Ingalsbe. Duffy was a member of the Eagle Creek Yacht Club and greatly enjoyed fishing and boating. He loved spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Marianne (Thompson) Ingalsbe; a daughter, Tara (Fiancé Nolan Rubeun) Ingalsbe of Basom; a son, Ryan (Rachael) Ingalsbe of Camillus; a granddaughter, Estella Ingalsbe; and siblings, Michael (Irene) Ingalsbe of El Mirage, AZ, and Dawn (Joe) Cassidy of Basom. Duffy is also survived by Jean DiCenso, Cheryl and Khrissy McDonald all of Oakfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to celebrate Duffy’s life from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday (July 6, 2014) at the Alabama Fire Hall, 2230 Judge Road, Basom. Oakfield – Mr. Anthony P. Perozzi, 86, of Oakfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Perozzi was born December 19, 1927 in Oakfield, a son of the late Joseph and Elisa DiMassimantonio Perozzi. A former member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Oakfield, Mr. Perozzi was a member of the American Legion and the former St. Nicholas Club. He proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He had a great love for animals, especially his cat, and would always feed woodchucks, squirrels and birds. His wife, Norma F. Reinhardt Perozzi, passed away on January 28, 2007. He is survived by his son, David (Diane) Perozzi of Oakfield; his brother, Frank (Ann) Perozzi of North Chili; his sister, Lillian (late Don) Weidner of Oakfield; his brother-in-law, Mario Ianni of Lockport and several nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Gina Nanni, Maria Ianni and Nicolina Smart. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. (PLEASE NOTE NO SERVICES ON FRIDAY). Batavia – Mrs. Kathleen A. (nee Netter) Berra, 58, of Batavia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital. Mrs. Berra was born October 23, 1955 in Buffalo, a daughter of Jamie Roberts Netter of Batavia and the late John Netter. She is also survived by her husband, Joe Berra of Batavia. Kathy will be remembered by her family as a loving, wonderful, smart, giving person who never expected anything in return. All that she did, she did out of love. Kathy was considered “the fun aunt”, she always made sure all of her nieces and nephews had great activities to enjoy at all the family picnics that she loved so much. Kathy enjoyed going to dinner for an O’Lacy Burger with her best friend and husband, Joe. Surviving along with her mother and her husband; her step-daughter, Lindsay Berra-Clemm of Batavia, her granddaughter, Allyson Clemm; loving brothers and sisters, George (Cheryl) Netter of Batavia, Amy (John) Huntzinger of Batavia, John (late Nadine) Netter of Lancaster, Sharon (Ron) Kinney of Batavia, Ginny Marble of Batavia, Lorrie L. (Timothy) Storrs of East Amherst, Susie (Damon) Ausman of Dover Plains; and Thomas Netter, of Oakfield. Loving nieces and nephews, Sherrie Timothy, Michael Netter, Steven (Nikki) Huntzinger, Robert Huntzinger, Allison Marble, Janelle Marble, Ashley Marble, Matthew (Dennille) Marble, Taylor Storrs, Hayley Storrs, Jamie Lee Reece, Damon Ausman, Jr. and Adam Ausman; several great-nieces and nephews she adored. Elizabeth, CO – Joseph P. Strogen, 92, of Elizabeth, CO, and formerly of Batavia, passed away Sunday, (January 19, 2014) at his daughter’s home , in Colorado. Mr. Strogen was born March 19, 1921 in Batavia, a son of the late John and Mary (Meterko) Strogen. Joe served his country honorably during World War II. Mr. Strogen was a former employee of Batavia Metal Products and Doehler-Jarvis in Batavia prior to moving to California in 1963. There he worked into his 70s as a machinist with Lockheed Martin, GSR Sloan Co., and Flo Control. In his later years he worked to design and maintain machinery for plastic pipe fittings. He greatly enjoyed traveling with his wife, baseball, fishing, and hunting. He was also an avid reader. Joeseph was a member of the Moose Lodge in Batavia and Warsaw, the VFW and the American Legion. He is the husband of the late Elva (Hyde) Strogen who passed away in January 2004. Surviving are his children, Paul D Strogen of Daly City, CA, James A. (Virginia) Strogen of Sun Rise Beach, MO, and Mylynne (Wayne) Austgen of Elizabeth, CO; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Darin Strogen of MN, Eric Austgen of Elizabeth, CO, Rachel Hurst of Aurora, CO, Susan Austgen of Elizabeth, CO, and Jim Wolford of PA. 12 great-grandchildren also survive. Joseph is preceded in death by his siblings, Frank, Jean and Helen. There will be no prior visitation. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, (June 28, 2014) at West Bethany Cemetery, Brown Road, Bethany. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Frank Pellegrino

Batavia – Mr. Frank Sam Pellegrino, age 97, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Batavia VA Medical Center. Mr. Pellegrino was born March 17, 1917 in the province of Reggio Calabria, Italy, a son of the late Frank and Carmela Gotto Pellegrino. Mr. Pellegrino immigrated to Batavia in 1934. From 1934 until 1942, he worked with his father and brothers with the Frank Pellegrino and Sons muck farms. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served with the 36th Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy. He was captured in Salerno and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for 21 months. He was the longest held Prisoner of War in Genesee County. He then returned home from the war and worked on the muck farming operation until 1955. From 1955 until 1975, he and his brothers operated the former Pellegrino’s Bakery located on Liberty Street. After leaving the bakery in 1975, he returned to the muck to farm with his brothers. He was a member of the Veness Strollo Post of the VFW. He is predeceased by his wife, Helen Tessitore Pellegrino on July 24, 1993 and his children, Carmela Temple in 1998 and Frank Pellegrino in 2011. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Rocco, Graziano, Guiseppe and Carmen Pellegrino and his sister, Nancy Barresse. He is survived by his grandchildren, Matthew W. (Sara) Temple and Kristen A. Temple, both of Batavia and Michael F. Pellegrino of Albion; his great-granddaughter, Samantha Balbi of Batavia; his daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Pellegrino of Albion; his sister, Lena Pellegrino of Batavia; two sisters-in-law, Frances Pellegrino of Virginia and Lena Pellegrino of Brockport; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia. Entombment, with full military honors will be held at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum. Batavia – Mrs. Ruth J. Woodruff, age 83, of Batavia, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital. Mrs. Woodruff was born December 10, 1930 in Hornell, a daughter of the late Joseph and Priscilla Hurlburt Jones. She retired from the New York State School for the Blind in 1991 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Batavia. She is survived by her husband, James E. Woodruff whom she married on October 31, 1953; her children, Charles (Terri) Woodruff of Alexander, Cynthia Zielinski of Portland, Oregon and Catherine (James) Zaso of Batavia; five grandchildren, Libby and Kyle Woodruff, Michelle, Matthew and Monica Zaso; four sisters, Joyce Enderle of Cuba, Anna Roach of Hamburg, Dorothy Dunham of Auburn and Doris Jones of Gowanda; and several nieces and nephews. She is the sister of the late Weezie Karr and Mary Thompson. There will be no prior visitation. Ms. Lyons was born July 27, 1941 in Batavia, a daughter of the late James and Dorothy (Betties) Lyons. Cora enjoyed needlepoint and knitting. She loved all animals, cooking, gardening, going out to eat and watching her game shows. She greatly cherished spending time with her grandchildren and listening to Elvis and Lawrence Welk. Ms. Hagen was born October 23, 1928 in Batavia, the daughter of the late George and Helen (Wakeman) Hagen. She was a very religious woman with a strong faith in God. “Lay down now and rest with the Angels.” Survivors include two brothers, Robert W. Hagen Sr. of Haines City, FL and Dean S. Hagen of Dunnellon, FL; a nephew, Robert W. (Cindy) Hagen Jr. of Fairport; a niece, Kim (Rolf) Paschedag of Fairport and a great-niece and a great-nephew. Batavia – Mr. Richard Coe Call, 84, of Batavia, died at his home August 2, 2014. He was born March 12, 1930 in Batavia, a son of the late Robert V. and Lucille Hale Call Cuningham. Mr. Call graduated from Batavia High School and Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in 1952. He was the former co-owner with his brother Robert Call of Call Farms, Inc./My-T Acres, Inc. of Batavia. The family farm, which was begun by his parents, is now operated by his three sons and his niece, Patricia C. Riner, has grown in a half-century to be one of the largest farms in New York State. Mr. Call has given generously of his time to Cornell University and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He served on the Cornell University Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2001 and was elected Trustee Emeritus in 2001. In 1985, he was recognized with the CALS Outstanding Alumni Award. Mr. Call served many agricultural organizations in leadership roles. He has been a director and/or officer for Agway Cooperative, Telmark Leasing, H.P. Hood Milk Cooperative, Upstate Milk Cooperative, O-AT-KA Milk Products Cooperative, NYS Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Eastern A.I. Cooperative, Pro-Fac Cooperative and Western Farm Credit Association. In 2008, he received the Distinguished Service Citation, the highest honor bestowed by the New York State Agricultural Society. Dedicated to his home community, he has been president of the Batavia YMCA, Executive Committee for the Genesee Boy Scout Council, and a trustee of Genesee Memorial Hospital, Batavia Rotary Club, and Genesee Community College Foundation. He was a member of Batavia First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marie R. Call; his sons, Nathan F. (Margaret) Call, Peter R. (Julie) Call and Philip R. Call; four grandchildren, Anne Marie C. (Joseph) Bezon, Casey B. Call, Krista J. Call and Jennifer M. Call; two great granddaughters, Olivia M. Bezon and Quinn M. Bezon; two brothers, Robert V. (Roberta) Call, Jr. and David L. (Mary) Call; one sister, Evelyn (Harlan) Brumsted; a brother-in-law, Theodore Kingsley and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Kingsley and Marie (Elting) Wells. A celebration of his life will be held at Batavia First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Cindy was born May 10, 1962 in Melrose Park, IL, a daughter of the late Alfred and Rachel (Miller) Mueller. She was a former owner, trainer and caregiver for horses. Oakfield – Christopher Brian Skelton, age 30, of Oakfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at his home. Chris was born July 18, 1984 in Batavia, a son of Brian T. Skelton of Oakfield and Linda C. (Dan Duffy) Meldrum Skelton of Rochester. A 2002 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama High School, Chris attended the University of Rochester where he studied economics and was enrolled in the R.O.T.C. program. He was previously employed as a truck driver for Perry’s Ice Cream in Akron. Chris participated in several triathlons’ in the area and ran in many marathons. He enjoyed water skiing and camping in the Adirondacks. An avid Buffalo Bills fan, he went to several games with his cousins, Jason and James. He enjoyed going to country concerts, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle but most of all cherished his time with his son, Mattox. Surviving along with his parents are his son, Mattox Simms of Bath; his brother, Matthew Skelton of Oakfield; paternal grandmother, Elaine (late James) Skelton of Oakfield, an uncle, Kevin (Diane) Skelton of Oakfield; an aunt, Lyn (Robert) Maute of Batavia; several cousins, including Jason (Jackie Oetinger) Skelton of Chili and James (Nicole) Skelton and their daughter, Amelia Rose Skelton of Buffalo; maternal grandparents, William (Carol) Meldrum of Palm Springs, California; uncles, Richard (Elba) Meldrum of Florida and William (Lori) Meldrum of Waterloo and an aunt, Sandra Jones of Texas. Batavia – Mrs. Ruth M. Callan Newell, 100, of Batavia, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born September 7, 1913 in Elba, a daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Lewis Hackett. A member of St. Mary’s Church, her family, especially time with her grandchildren, and her home were the most important parts of her life. The second oldest of 13 children, at the age of 16, she served as the personal maid to Mae Rowell, wife of E.N. Rowell who was owner of E.N. Rowell Box Factory in Batavia. During World War II, she worked at the Doehler-Jarvis factory in Batavia on the bomb line. Her family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Genesee County Nursing Home, especially to the nurses and aides on 4th floor who gave their mother loving care while she was a resident for the past four years. She is predeceased by her husbands, Raymond N. Callan in1981 and Frank O. Newell in 2006. She is survived by her children, Donald (Barbara) Callan of Batavia, Richard (Helen) Callan of Walworth, Ann (Joseph) Sherwood Brunett of Rochester, Charles (Janet) Callan of Fredonia, Bonnie (Philip) Coburn of Batavia and Patricia (Vincent) Shanley of Rochester; her step-daughter, Nancy Newell Spilove of Florida; 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-grand and step-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Myra Kerner of Largo, Florida, Francis (Lee) Hackett of Florida, David (Jo) Hackett of Rochester and Joanne Giambrone of Florida and several nieces and nephews. Medical Center in Batavia for 40 years prior to her retirement, died Friday, August 15, 2014 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia. Mrs. Hudson was born April 8, 1926 in Batavia, a daughter of the late George G. and Kathryn (O’brien) Hackett. She was a graduate of Batavia High School and member of St. Joseph’s Church. She was a former member of St. Joachin and Anne Church in Attica, was an avid birdwatcher and crafter and was a friend to everyone she met. Her husband, Eldon N. Hudson, died July 24, 2010 in their 38th year of marriage. Survivors include her step-son, Alan (Judith) Hudson of Novi, MI; her step-daughter, Marcia (Jeffrey) Freyman of Lexington, KY; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George Hackett, Elma B. Parker and Catherine Rogers. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 E. Main St, Batavia. Mrs. Hudson’s Mass of Christian burial will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Resurrection Parish – St. Joseph Site, 303 E. Main St., Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaver Meadow Audubon Society, 1610 Welch Rd., North Java, NY 14113, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Alexander.

Elba – Mr. Christopher W. Blake, Jr., age 21, of Elba, a technician for Z&M Ag and Turf in Oakfield, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was born January 29, 1993 in Batavia, the son of Christopher W. Sr. and Jennifer Slane Blake of Elba. Chris was a 2011 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama High School, where he played football. Always active and on the go, Chris loved hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as outgoing and someone who enjoyed life, living life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends where he could always be found trying to make people laugh. Surviving along with his parents are his sister, Samantha Blake of Elba; grandparents, Linda (late Ray) Totten of Elba, Terry (Marsha) Slane of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, late Toni (Malcolm) Scott of Soperton, Georgia and Warren Blake of East Pembroke; his girlfriend, Cady Glor of Oakfield and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Alabama Cemetery. Batavia – Mr. Richard H. Dillon, 89, of Batavia, a former foreman for Scalia’s Landscaping in Batavia, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014 at New York State Veteran’s Home. Mr. Dillon was born April 28, 1925 in Albion, a son of the late Henry Joseph and Harriett Jedrzejewski Dillon. A member of Sacred Heart Church and the VFW Post No. 1602 and proudly served his country during World War II with the United States Navy. His wife, Mary Reilly Dillon passed away in 1993. Survivors include his children, Richard D. Dillon, Linda (William F.) McBride and Lori Johnston, all of Batavia; his son-in-law, Kenneth Blank of Barre; seven grandchildren, Christine (Robert) Hill of Rochester, William C. (Joelle) McBride of Spangdahlem AFB, Germany, Aubrey (Kasie) Way of Rochester, Caitlyn Johnston of Buffalo, Stephen, Michael and Gregory Blank, all of Barre; four great-grandchildren, Alexis and Aiden Hill of Rochester, Alex McBride of Germany and Liam Way of Rochester; his sister, Margaret Koneski of Medina and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was the father of the late Melanie Blank who died in 2000 and brother of the late Henry R., Gordon, Eleanor and Donald Dillon. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia where services will follow at 7 p.m. Graveside services, with full military honors, will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Ellicott Street, Batavia.
